Potassium permanganate is widely used as an oxidizing agent in chemical production, including in the manufacture of saccharin, vitamin C, isoniazid, and benzoic acid. In the pharmaceutical field, it can be used as a preservative, disinfectant, deodorizing agent, and antidote.
In water purification and wastewater treatment, potassium permanganate serves as a water treatment agent for oxidizing hydrogen sulfide, phenols, iron, manganese, and various organic and inorganic pollutants. It can also help control odors and remove color. In gas purification, it is used to remove trace amounts of sulfur, arsenic, phosphorus, silanes, boranes, and sulfides.
