Products Description of Manganese Sulfate CAS#7785-87-7
Manganese sulfate is a light pink, fine monoclinic crystalline powder at room temperature. It is readily soluble in water but insoluble in ethanol. When heated above 200°C, it begins to lose its water of crystallization. Most of the crystal water is removed at approximately 280°C. At around 700°C, it forms an anhydrous molten salt, and decomposition begins at approximately 850°C, releasing sulfur trioxide, sulfur dioxide, or oxygen.
Manganese belongs to Group VII of the periodic table and does not naturally occur in its free state. It is generally found in animals and plants in the form of compounds. Since Orent, Kemmer, and other researchers identified manganese as an essential trace element for animals in 1940, extensive studies have demonstrated its important nutritional role in animal organisms. Manganese is an essential component of enzymes such as arginine kinase, proline peptidase, and pyruvate carboxylase. Manganese ions also activate various enzymes, including certain hydrolases, dephosphorylases, phosphorylases, and ribozymes. They contribute to animal growth, immune function, and reproductive performance.
Manganese sulfate is an important trace-element fertilizer used to promote crop growth and improve yields. It can be applied as a base fertilizer, seed-soaking treatment, seed-mixing agent, topdressing, or foliar spray. In livestock farming and the feed industry, it is commonly used as a feed additive to support healthy growth and weight gain in livestock and poultry.
In addition to its agricultural and feed applications, manganese sulfate is used as a drying agent in paint and ink processing, a raw material for preparing manganese sulfate solutions, and a catalyst in fatty acid synthesis. It also has applications in papermaking, ceramics, printing and dyeing, and ore flotation. Furthermore, it serves as a raw material for electrolytic manganese production and the manufacture of other manganese salts.
