Products Description of Ferrous sulfate heptahydrate CAS37782-63-0
Ferrous sulfate has the chemical formula FeSO₄. Its most common form is ferrous sulfate heptahydrate (FeSO₄·7H₂O), which contains seven molecules of water of crystallization and is commonly known as green vitriol. It appears as light blue-green monoclinic crystals with a density of 1.898 g/cm³. At 64°C, it melts in its own water of crystallization. Ferrous sulfate is soluble in water, forming an acidic aqueous solution. When exposed to air, it gradually weathers and oxidizes into yellow-brown basic iron salts. At approximately 300°C, it loses all its water of crystallization, leaving behind a white anhydrous powder.
Ferrous sulfate is readily oxidized in humid air, causing it to develop a yellow or rust-colored appearance. It is water-soluble, and its solutions are commonly prepared at concentrations of around 10%. As a coagulant, ferrous sulfate produces relatively large flocs with good hydrophobic properties, allowing for rapid sedimentation and effective decolorization. Its treatment cost is relatively low, making it an economical option for wastewater treatment, particularly in applications where the wastewater pH is above 8.5.

Product Application of Ferrous Sulfate Heptahydrate CAS#37782-63-0
Ferrous sulfate, also known as ferrous sulfate heptahydrate, green vitriol, or drying-type ferrous sulfate, has a wide range of industrial and agricultural applications. It can be used as a reducing agent in electroplating plants, a flocculant in industrial wastewater treatment, and a precipitating agent in printing and dyeing facilities. It also serves as a raw material in the production of iron oxide red pigments, pesticides, and fertilizers, and can be applied as an iron fertilizer for flowers.
Ferrous sulfate is widely used in the printing and dyeing, papermaking, and wastewater treatment industries, particularly for flocculation, clarification, and decolorization of domestic sewage and industrial wastewater. It can also be used to treat wastewater containing chromium or cadmium. In the treatment of highly alkaline and highly colored wastewater, ferrous sulfate can help reduce the amount of neutralizing acid required.
